Yes, please remove them. I think they kind of lead people in the wrong direction and make it less likely they will notice the really cool menu below...
If you remove the thumbnails from the side and don't replace it with something then when looking at panos it will be too wide like your looking out your rear view mirror, I love the new player and the autoplay is great, but people aren't that smart and I know I'll get calls on what happened to thumbnails and how do I go from image from image, just like downloading individual stills I had 3 clients instead of saving the large or small they saved the actual 75 pixel high thumbnails and wondered why it showed up blurry when they sent it to mls(alan since fixed so you can't save the thumbnails themselves), So for the dumb who can't ever figure anything out, keeping the familiar tried and true might be best, I'd still like to see what you have in mind and re-evaluate, the only thing which you said your working on is letting the viewer know they can click and drag on panos to move around or showing cursor which would move and point in direction the pano is going. Keep up the good work.
I think the builder should have the option
I downloaded the tour with the new viewer. This eliminated the thumbnails, and I thought it looked great. Kind of gave it the wide screen look. If anyone wants to see what it would look like without the thumbnails, downlaod it and see for yourself.

heck no... i use them all the time!! the other ones in the middle are just too little and when you have a lot of pictures in addition to panos like i always do, there is no way you can quickly click to the kitchen or whatever and the little middle scrolling thumbnails are just not as clear.... NO! not a good idea. Also keep in mind that not all users looking at VT's are savvy computer users.. the thumbnails on the left are much easier for people to look at and click on. Think I feel strongly about it :-). I just know my clients!
The only problem with that, is when you go full screen you wouldn't see the thumbnails anyway. It would work OK if you didn't go full screen
I voted for remove thumbnails, now I'm rethinking after reading some of the replies. I agree with someone that mentioned that maybe have an option when building the tour to turn them on or off - that would I believe make everyone happy.
I also read the reasons for giving the option. I agree, but make the thumbnails a bit smaller so it does not take up so much of the screen real estate.
We wanted to thank everyone for your thoughtful input.

The vote was spit right down the middle. The obvious solution is to let you the photographers have the choice. Since this is not a quick fix, we have decided to incorporate this solution into the larger project of giving you complete control over the information that appears on the tour and where it appears.

This will take a little longer but this will give you complete control over the entire layout/design.

We will keep you updated on the progress. Thanks again for your help.

Great. Thank you so much. You guys really are fabulous!

Please DO NOT remove the thumbnails. It would be like reading a book without a table of contents. Also, I find that pop up menu at the botton of the player to be very annoying. Keep the thumbnails and dump the pop up.

Does this mean that the viewer will be delayed, or it will be available as is in the mean time
