Hey Guys, Paul and Alan have come so far and they've created such an awesome viewer, that I just couldn't resist throwing some of my design skills at it. One thing I've been looking at recently with my new biz partner is the layout of the TB tours. I think we've come up with something that would really help dress up the tour and make it marketable against OBEO and Tourfactory.

I already talked to Alan once about the layout and they've got their hands pretty busy with the viewer so I decided to go ahead and mess with it a little bit myself. If you all like this a lot I might make it available to the providers in the form of an HTML template unless Alan can figure out a way to throw it into the system easily.

So take a look, let me know what I should keep/change, and remember it's only a first draft that still needs some refining so CC is appreciated.

This particular design is sans thumbnails on the side because I wanted to start with a simple layout first and then tackle thumbnails in after. Most likely I will have to make a drastic change in the design to incorporate the thumbnails without making the template look cramped.

The only thing that probably won't be available at first is the internal shadow on the viewer. It adds some much needed depth to a simple layout, but it will be hard to layer over the viewer unless Alan/Paul do it on their end first.

Here is my design draft (Top Middle) next to the existing tour (Top Left) and the Tourfactory "ultimate" tour template (Top Right), as well as a few other smaller templates from Obeo, Circlepix, Visualtour, etc.

The fuller sizes are available to look at below:

Chris I know where you are coming from, as I am the same way and want something unique to my biz, yet I am not talented in all areas to accomplish this. That is why finding Tour Buzz was fantastic, and a customized skin would be great.
I would like to put my vote in to move the "marketable skin" to the top of the list. I use a 17" wide screen laptop and the current skin looks terrible in wide screen because the scene is to wide for the height. I don't think it is necessary to have thumbnails on the side when they are already on the pop-up controller. If you look at all the other "big box" skins ((RTV) they are very hard to navigate. The average house hunter does not want to have to "learn" how to operate each company's viewer. Let's make it dummy proof. If I can figure it out in 2 or 3 seconds then anyone can because I'm the ultimate dummy when it comes to technology.
What was the result of the remove thumbnails vote? It looked to me like a vast majority were for the idea of removing them. Did that fail, cause I would most definitely say get rid of them. Too redundant with both.
@Chris

It will probably be at least 3 months before we get the WYSIWYG editor for the layouts. It will take some research and thought to make sure it's flexible enough yet simple to use. It's possible we'll have "templates" available before the WYSIWYG editor though, but I'd bet that's still 3 months away.

Our plan is to do video support and floorplan/hotspot support first.

Of course, if customers decide it's more important to have layout/graphics tools, we could reconsider.

That's part of what I was hoping to find out by posting it here. I know what my needs are but I kind of wanted to see if more people wanted a "dressed-up" look or more features.
Chris these templates are great, I'd use them in a heartbeat! I agree with Linda - layout/graphics are higher on my list then floorplan/hotspots.

You and Paul are doing everything right as far as I am concerned yet there is always a wish list. A wish list will keep a company growing, but staying focused on what is needed now is the way to grow in an efficient manner.
Alan, I personally would like to have layout/graphics sooner than floorplan/hotspots!
Alan - I vote for floorplan/hotspot support first. I love the fancy skins and the customizable interface, but I can get a lot more mileage and money for a more feature-rich solution. I can charge more for a floorplan interface or a hotlinked map than I can for a fancier UI.

Mike
I think you design is great! How hard would something like that be to do?
